2023 TOURNAMENTS

Check back here for tournament announcements, news and results throughout the season.

The Don Sheard Wood Bat Tournament
April 3-8 hosted by Trout Lake Little League
Hastings representatives: Major A Red, Major A Blue
RECAP: Despite some pretty suspect weather, the good folks at Trout Lake managed to get all of the games played in this tournament.  In the end both Hastings Major A teams met each other in the final and played an extremely intense game with the Red team coming out on top 1-0.  Congratulations to the Red team and their coaching staff: Manager Vito Bordignon, Coach John Wong and Coach Dale Weisbrod.

The Howard Matsumoto Invitational Tournament
April 18-23 hosted by Little Mountain Baseball
Hastings representative: Major B Blue Jays
RECAP: In a 5-day Easter long weekend tournament at Little Mountain, 10 Major B teams battled in the Howard Matsumoto Tournament. After losing to Jericho, the team rallied and battled hard to win the next three games to advance to the semi finals.  Due to a rain-out on Easter Monday, the tournament officials had to modify the schedule, and the team did not have a chance to challenge the first place team.  Nevertheless, the team triumphed to clinch 3rd place!
Team led by Manager Marco, Coach Ken, Coach Dino and Coach Bob.

The Justin Morneau Major B Tournament
May 10-12 hosted by New Westminster Little League
Hastings representatives: Major B Yankees
RECAP: Over the Mother's Day weekend the Major B Yankees travelled to New Westminster to participate in the Justin Morneau Majors Tournament.  They were met head on by some fireballers from Langely but managed to take care of business against both New West and Coquitlam.  The team made it to the bronze medal game where they fell to a tough, un-tiered team from Trout Lake.  The team had a great time, learned lots and made some friends along the way.
Team led by Manager Scott and Coach Paulie

The Mackin Yard Invitational Tournament
May 17-20 hosted by Coquitlam Little League
Hastings representatives: Major B Expos, Major B Royals, Major A Blue
RECAP: The Expos and the Royals met each other in the semi-finals of the tournament in a rain-soaked affair that saw the Expos edge the Royals.  We are thrilled that both teams made it into the playoffs!  The Expos fought hard in the finals, despite the elements, but fell to a very strong team from Langley and ended up as silver medalists.  On the Major A side, the Hastings Blue team ran the table in the round robin but the bats went silent in the semi-finals and the team couldn't recover from an early deficit setting up an all Coquitlam final.

The Mike Whitmey Memorial Majors Tournament
May 17-20 hosted by Langley Little League
Hastings Representatives: Major A Red
RECAP: Hastings Major A Red played in the Mike Whitmey Memorial Tournament hosted by Langley Little League at City Park over the Victoria Day long weekend. The field of 8 teams provided good competition and excellent baseball for our Major players.

After a weekend of beautiful weather and games against Mt. Seymour, Langley, Lynn Valley and a tough semi-final against Little Mountain, Monday’s final game vs Langley Dodgers was rained out and played on Tuesday evening. Despite great pitching and some stellar defensive plays, our team fell to the Dodgers by a score of 3-1. Silver medal for Hastings in this round against the Dodgers. We will meet them again in the Hyack Tournament on May 24.

Hastings Community Little League is honoured to make a donation to the Mike Whitmey Memorial fund to carry on Mike’s goal of giving underprivileged youth opportunities to learn, develop and feel believed in.

The Fred Ritchie Invitational Tournament
May 17-20 hosted by Hastings Community Little League
Hastings representatives: Minor Expos, Minor Blue Jays
RECAP:  The values of Little League - citizenship, teamwork and discipline - were on display at the Fred Ritchie Invitational, May 17-20 as Hastings Little League hosted Minor division teams from across Metro Vancouver.  The Fred Ritchie Invitational has a long history with Hastings Little League and honours a beloved coach and volunteer who sadly passed away from cancer in 1991. That year, the league renamed their Minor tournament the Fred Ritchie Invitational.  Participating in this year’s tournament were teams from Dunbar, Mt Seymour, New West, Trout Lake (2), Langley and of course our own Hastings Expos and Blue Jays.  Over the course of 4 days and 16 games, we were treated to some top notch baseball, with several games being close all the way to the finish. In the end, it was an all Trout Lake final with the Tigers meeting the Giants at 2pm on Victoria Day Monday. The Tigers were victorious in another close game with a final score of 7-6.  We are grateful for the support of Sports Hosting Vancouver, the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Park Board for funding to bring back the Fred Ritchie Invitational. Many thanks go out to the parent volunteers who hoisted tents, lined fields and worked the score board (plus more) to ensure the games ran smoothly.  It was a pleasure hosting the revitalized Fred Ritchie Tournament and we’re already looking forward to next year.

The Sussex Victoria Day Invitational
May 16-20 hosted by South Vancouver Little League
Hastings representatives: Minor Diamondbacks
RECAP: Hastings Diamondbacks played two close games with some new rules for the players including stealing home.  Our team continued our league fair play rules and did not steal home during the round robin play.  We lost narrowly 7-6 in our first game and almost came back 10-12 in our second game.  In the consolation game the players learned that when it rains they get really dirty sliding into a base which they enjoyed!

The Dairy Queen 8s Tournament
May 18-20 hosted by Dunbar Little League
Hastings Representatives: Rookie Red Sox

The New Westminster Victoria Day Classic
May 18-19 hosted by New Westminster Little League
Hastings representatives:  Rookie Cardinals
RECAP: The Rookie Hastings Cardinals lost the 3rd place game to the New West Cardinals in a hard fought extra innings battle at the New Westminster Victoria Day Classic.

Highlights: Down 10-6 in the bottom of the sixth in the consolation game, Hastings scored 4 runs to tie it up sending it to extra innings, only to go down in the 8th inning.  Kids were super excited - calling it the miracle inning!!

Lesson learned - not to get caught off the bases on a line drive catch.  Hastings lost the consolation game in the 8th inning when the New West team turned a line drive out into a triple play.

The Trout Lake Memorial Rookie Tournament
May 18-20 hosted by Trout lake
Hastings representatives: Rookie Pirates

The Hyack Majors Tournament
May 24-26 at Moody Park, New Westminster
Hastings representatives: Major A Red, Major A Blue
RECAP: In a tournament where keeping the runs against stat as low is key, the Major A Blue team managed only 3 runs against total in 3 games.  However, due to a 2-2 tie in their first game, was not able to qualify for the gold medal game.  In a competive bronze medal tilt against the Coquitlam Giants, the Hastings bats came to life and the team won the bronze with an 8-5 final.
