   Saskatchewan Rugby Union: NRHPC

The Saskatchewan National Rugby High Performance Centre (NRHPC) was launched in 2010 as an elite training academy program for boys and girls ages 14-19.  This group of athletes are given specialized high performance training plans to maximize their athletic ability and rugby skills.

The program features a number of training camps scheduled in the early part of the year.  We believe that winter training will make summer champions.  The overall goal of the program is to first develop better athletes through education and training sessions and then develop better rugby players through skills development and specialization training.

This select group will also work with some of the provinces best coaches.  As well as some special guests that will be featured time to time and will include Canadian National Team coaches and National Team players.  Each year weekend camps are scheduled between Regina and Saskatoon.   This training academy program has become an important identification tool for all Provincial Teams and future National Team members.

The NRHPC features 3 levels of Athletes:
GOLD - current National Team members or National Camp invitees
SILVER - past Provincial Team members (of 2 years)
BRONZE - age eligible hard working athletes

BRONZE LEVEL Application

As part of the NRHPC training group you will receive a training top and workout journal.  At the end of the training cycle we will identify the top 6 athletes based on attendance, attitude, commitment to training and most improved and these athletes will receive a $200 rugby voucher to be used for any type of rugby expenses IE gym membership, rugby boots, registration or Provincial team fees.
The registration fee for the Sask Rugby NRHPC for the 2013 year is set at only $150.  This fee goes towards equipment, facilities, and services.

Each year a ciriculum will feature:

  • Nutrition (provided by Sask Sports Medicine and Science Council)
  • Monitored Conditioning
  • Technical/Tactical
  • Mental Training (provided by Sask Sports Medicine and Science Council)
  • Positional skills
  • Mentoring
  • Injury Management (provided by Sask Sports Medicine and Science Council)
  • Laws Education
  • Video analysis
The NRHPC is a sanctioned academy program by both the IRB and Rugby Canada.  All attendance and testing results will be reported directly to Rugby Canada.  The program will feature core skill assessments that are utilized by the National Academy Manager and the National Team Staff of Rugby Canada.  Rugby Canada has stated any player that wants to be a part of their National Age Grade Program must participate in their regional academy.

The NRHPC will be first step for Saskatchewan players to be invited to National Camps and to work towards becoming Canada’s next elite rugby players.  It will also serve as identification for all Sask Rugby Provincial teams as well as the U19 Men’s Wolf Pack Program and the Canada U20 Women’s Program.  The NRHPC will definitely raise the standard of play and training for our Provincial Programs and bring a new meaning to High Performance for Saskatchewan Rugby.
