Association Rules:
 
  • Age Eligibility – An Athlete must be between the ages of 10 and 14 by August 16, of the year in which they are participating.
 
  • Each athlete will only be allowed to compete at one level for any sport during that season. When an Athlete has been placed on a roster and that roster has been turned into the ACAA Sport Specific Director they will not be allowed to compete on another team.
 
  • Each team is required to have a roster turned in with the ACAA Sports Director prior to their first ACAA game.
 
  • If there are any new players added to a roster, the team must submit a new team roster and with the “new” athlete’s name. A “new” athlete is any individual who is not on any other team roster or has just registered with the school. The “new” athlete will not be allowed to compete until the new roster is turned into the ACAA Sports Director. The failure to do so will result in a default of any and all games that the “new” athlete participates in.
 
 
  • FOREFIT and NO SHOW –
 
a.Forfeit - This is when a team attends the game/match and does not have a sufficient number of players to compete. 
b.No Show - This is when a team does not contact the Sports Director 24 hours prior to their scheduled game
c.Each offending team will be fined $25.00 and charged for the official’s fee for the scheduled event.

 
Athlete’s Code of Conduct
 
  • No Athlete will be forced to participate in any sports.
 
  • The sporting event is an opportunity for the Athlete to participate and have fun. The sporting event is not for the adults and for an attitude of “winning at all costs”.
 
  • Each Athlete will learn and adhere to the rules of the athletic event and the policies of the Albuquerque Christian Athletic Association (ACAA).
 
  • Each Athlete will be a positive role model, encourage sportsmanship, display respect, courtesy, and support for my teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators at every athletic event he/she competes in and/or every athletic event we attend.
 
  • Each Athlete will not engage in any unsportsmanlike conduct with any teammate, opponent, coaches, officials, and spectators during any athletic event he/she competes in and/or attend.
 
  • Each Athlete will not encourage any behavior and/or practices that would endanger the health and welfare of our teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators at any athletic event.
 
Each Athlete will have read, reviewed, and accepted the aforementioned “Code of Conduct” for the Albuquerque Christian Athletic Association (ACAA) prior to any competition.  Each Athlete please write/sign/date their name below:
 

 
 

Coach’s Code of Conduct

 
  • Each Coach will teach their Athletes to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
 
  • Each Coach will demand that their Athletes treat their opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect and courtesy.
 
  • Each Coach will promote with each Athlete that performing at their utmost is more important than the final outcome of the competition. “Winning is not as important as or more important than putting your best effort forward.”
 
  • Each Coach will use a “positive” method of coaching with each Athlete at all times (practice times and game times).
 
  • Each Coach will be the example of proper respect and manners towards, their team, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators at all times.
 
  • Each Coach will provide an environment that is free from and the use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol at all sporting events.
 
  • Each Coach will take responsibility for their coaching staff, athletes, and fans during practice and sporting competition at all times.
 
Each Coach will have read, reviewed, and accepted the aforementioned “Code of Conduct” for the Albuquerque Christian Athletic Association (ACAA) prior to any competition.

Basketball Rules
 
Governing Rules:  National Federation of High School Sports
 
Association Rules: These rules will be used to supplement the NFHS rule for basketball and will be used for any ACAA basketball competition.
 
1.Age Eligibility – An Athlete must be between the ages of 10 and 14 by August 16, of the year in which they are participating.
 
2.Each athlete will only be allowed to compete in one division during the basketball season. No athlete will be allowed to move onto another roster when the season has officially begun.
 
3.Each athlete will only be allowed to compete in the appropriate gender division.
 
4.Each team is required to have a roster turned in with the ACAA Basketball Director / Commissioner by a chosen date. 
 
5.If there are any new players added to a roster, the team must submit a new team roster and the “new” athlete is required to complete the “ACAA Sports Code of Conduct” form. A “new” athlete is any individual who is not on any other team roster or has just registered with the school. The “new” athlete will not be allowed to compete until the form and new roster is turned into the ACAA Commissioner. The failure to do so can result in a forfeit of any and all games that the “new” athlete has competed in.
 
6.Roster minimum will be 6 eligible players.
 
7.Game day minimum – at the start of the game a team must have at least 5 eligible players. If a team does not have five (5) players by the schedule tip-off time they shall forfeit the game. Official tip-off will be when at least one (1) official is present to officiate the game. Two officials will be used at all ACAA basketball events.
 
8.20-Point Rule (Differential)
a.There will be no full court and/or half court pressure allowed.
b.The clock will run continuously except when free throws are being taken and/or a time-out is called.
c.These rule changes will be used until the lead the point differential is 10 pts.
 
9.Time-Outs per game:
a.3 – 60 second time-outs
b.2 – 30 second time-outs
 
10.Intermission
a.After the 1st and 3rd quarter will be a 1-minute duration,
b.Halftime will be a 10-minute duration
 
11.Overtime (OT):
a.Each overtime (OT) period will be two (2) minutes in length, with one (1) additional time out. If a tie remains, there will be a one (1) minute break and the teams will play another two (2) minute quarter. This sequence will continue until a winner is determined.
 
12.The HOME TEAM will be responsible for providing a scoreboard operator and official scorekeeper. The HOME TEAM may offer to have the VISITING TEAM the option of being the official score keeper.
 
13.Two technical fouls on a player or coach is an ejection from the game and the next game.
14.No profanity, taunting, or unsportsmanlike conduct will be acceptable.

ASSOCIATION RULES FOR THE VARIOUS LEVLES

 

A DIVISION

1.Academic Level (Maximum) – 8th Grade
2.Playing Time – 6 minute quarters – 4 quarters / 5 minute intermission (half-time)
3.8th Grade academic level or any Athlete that the Coaching staff feels can compete at that level.
 

B DIVISION

1.Academic Level (Maximum) – 7th Grade
2.Playing Time – 6 minute quarters – 4 quarters / 5 minute intermission (half-time)
3.Maximum of two 7th Grade academic level or any Athlete that the Coaching staff feels can compete at that level.
 
THE BALL
The ball shall meet the following specifications:
  1. Its solid color shall be the approved orange shade or natural color.
  2. It shall be spherical.
  3. It shall have a deeply-pebbled cover with horizontally shaped panels bonded tightly to the rubber carcass.
  4. The circumference shall be:
    1. Within a minimum of 29½ inches to a maximum of 30 inches for boys competition.
    2. Within a minimum of 28½ inches to a maximum of 29 inches for girls competition.
 
 

 

 

 

 

ACAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 
1.Tournament play will be single elimination.
 
2.Seeding determination
a.Divisional points
b.If there is a tie between 2 or more teams:
i.Head to head
ii.Point differential between head to head – team with the smallest differential is the higher seed and so on.
iii.Results between common opponents
c.If there is still a tie between 2 teams:
i.Head to head
ii.Results between common opponents
iii.Coin flip

 
PROTEST:
 
The following steps will need to be taken in order to file a PROTEST of any ACAA sanctioned event. A PROTEST will be based on any infraction of the National Federation of High School (NFHS) rules, any ACAA specific rules, eligibility of an Athlete for a specific ACAA sporting event, and/or any activity that could have interfered with the outcome of the event.
 
1.The ACAA member school’s Coach will initiate all protest for himself/herself or on behalf of the parents/athlete. They will need to notify the specific Sport Director of their intentions by Email and/or phone within 24 hours after the completion of the sporting event.
 
2.The protest will be on a written form. Each protest should site the incident that they are calling into protest.
 
3.The form will be reviewed and approved by the ACAA member school’s Coach and Athletic Director. The Coach and Athletic Director must sign and date the form to show that they agree with the PROTEST being logged.
 
NOTE: No protest will be heard, reviewed, or addressed by the ACAA if it is not in a written form and approved by the member school’s Coach and Athletic Director.
 
4.Each Protest will them be reviewed, discussed, and a decision rendered by the ACAA panel. The panel will consist of Association Commissioner and Sports Director. The panel will render a decision on the Protest in a timely manner. The Sports Director will notify the appropriate parties of the decision. All decisions made by the panel will be final.
