Calgary: Programs

Three levels of training are offered: Bronze, Silver and Gold

A new Skill Development Series, known as the X-Treme Skill Development Series, has been implemented and is designed for female hockey players to enhance their individual skills. The Bronze Series will focus on specific skill development in four divisions: Atom, Novice, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget. This Bronze Development Series is the feeder program to the Silver and Gold Levels. Participants receive expert coaching in a high performance environment.

Athletes who have been identified provincially or nationally are evaluated and placed in appropriate Silver or Gold training levels. A yearly training plan is devised for each training group. Each group operates from September through March 31st. This encompasses the Pre, Main and Post competitive phases. April is the transition phase in which the athlete is provided with recovery time.

A four-month off-season training program is implemented from May through August. These are the general prep and specific prep phases. The athlete participates in group training to establish a sound foundation in all energy systems: aerobic, anaerobic and alactic. Strength is built along with sound nutritional and mental training, as well as individual skill development.

BRONZE
Young female athletes wanting to develop and enhance their individual skills will participate in the Bronze Series. This program focuses on individual skill and tactical development.

Oval X-Treme Female Hockey Program Introduces NEW Program

With the support of Girls Hockey Calgary, the successful Oval X-Treme Hockey Program will launch the initiation phase of a new X-Treme Junior Team.

As female hockey continues to grow it has been identified that there is a bridge that needs to be gapped from minor to senior hockey. A need has been identified for a competitive Junior A Program. Work has been started on this for new league to start in the fall of 2006. The Oval X-Treme will form its first Jr. Team comprised of high calibre athletes primarily between the ages of 18 – 22.

We support the Midget AA program and have created a X-Treme Jr. Development Squad that compliments the athletes minor hockey team. It is the introduction to a high performance program.

Phase I – identify athletes that will have future potential to play on either a Junior A, B or Sr. Team. These athletes will train in the X-Treme Jr. Development Squad, in conjunction with their own minor hockey team.

Phase II – The implementation of a competitive Junior A league. The Jr. Oval X-Treme will commence with training the summer of 2006 and compete in a league Fall 2006.
