The Athens Aeros appear to be kind of liking this thing called overtime.
For the second consecutive game in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League's Rideau-St. Lawrence Conference final, the Aeros have discovered victory in extra play, beating the Casselman Vikings 7-6 Thursday night in Casselman.
Athens also downed the Vikings in Game 2 in overtime, 6-5 on Tuesday night.
Game 4 of the best-of-seven series, which Athens now leads 2-1, will be played Sunday in Athens at 7:30 p.m.
J.P. Augustine, with just his second goal and fourth point in 14 playoff games, had what is probably his most important goal of the post-season for the Aeros. We say probably only because his other goal was actually a series winner, as he notched the third goal in Athens' 6-2 Game 5 win over the Gananoque Islanders that gave the Aeros a 4-1 Rideau Division final series win.
Shane Hiley scored three goals and added an assist for Athens, which was tied 1-1 after one period and led 3-2 after two before a wild third period in which seven goals were scored, including Adam Wensink's goal for Casselman with just three seconds left that sent the game into overtime.
Daniel Lacroix also had four points for Athens (1G, 3A), while Mark Craig had three (3A).
For Casselman, Devin Desnoyers, Derek Widenmaier, Curtis Chennette, Jody Sullivan, Joel Adam and Wensink scored once each.
Casselman outshot Athens 61-43 in the game.
