Old School swept the defending champs the Choice Parts in 3 games to win their first league championship. They came from behind to take the last game 3-2 and threw out the last batter with only minutes of daylight to spare. <p>Defending champ Choice Parts beat Empire 7-6 in the deciding 3rd game to advance to the Finals. Old School swept the Kings earlier to earn their spot. The Finals won't begin until Sept. 20. <p>I am very sorry to hear the shocking news that Victor (Papi) Rodriguez, an active player this year and manager of the Mariners, passed away suddenly a few days ago. My deepest condolences to his son Josh and their family.Congrats to Holland Cowger, former Rangers player, upon the release of his first novel, GLORY DAYS, about baseball. Jack Oppenheim had a base hit on Aug. 9, breaking his own record for oldest player to get a hit, at age 83. He got a hit, RBI and a run in game 2 of the Finals on Sept. 20. Anthony Echevarria of the KIngs pitched a no-hitter Aug 9.Sunday, August 2 Pat Freni hosted a memorial for Philly Joe Musetti, a RadioFree/ Contact coach and longtime Central Park fixtureat Heckscher #5, between games 1 and 2 between Empire and Old School, 2 teams that each have several of Philly's old teammates We're very sad to learn of the passing of Philly Joe Musetti, longtime coach with the Radio Free/Contact Hitters/Luckey's franchise  + a Central Park softball fixture for decades, on June 8.  Ray Rivera of Old School no-hit the Mariners in a shortened 4 innings game on May 17. Mike Peckins (Parts) pitched
a mercy-shortened 4-inning perfect game in game 1 on opening day. It was
the first perfecto in the BASL's 39-year history. <p> Pitcher Sixto Colon appealed his being on the banned list + was reinstated. Sixto then joined the Super Freaks as a pitcher on opening day.
while Jimmy Bitros remains the GM.

Jeff Marcus attended the annual Central Park
Conservancy/ Parks Dept meeting at the North Meadow Rec Ctr on March 18, chaired by Caroline Greenleaf + Maria Hernandez.  Centrl Park's turf manager Gary Gentilucci  gave a presentation on field maintenance + said field permits in Sept would depend upon the conditions of the fields in August and made no promises either way about Sept extensions.

The league will have at least 8 teams this year. Special thanks to Ricky Ronda, newly-elected pitching enforcer, for his extraordinary effort finding us new blood to increase our ranks. Ricky Ronda + Christian Goris will take over a reconstituted Iron Bound squad to be known as Old School.
