VIJHL PJHL PROSPECTS GAME SUNDAY IN NANAIMO
- Submitted by

Sunday afternoon (January 12, 2020) in Nanaimo (2:00 PT), the young guns of two premier Junior hockey leagues will collide and fans of the Vancouver Island Hockey League and the Pacific Junior Hockey League are in for a treat.

Clayton Robinson, owner of the host Nanaimo Buccaneers, is looking forward to showcasing the great young talent these leagues have to offer in a great city, the Harbour City. “We are excited to host the first-ever PJHL versus VIJHL Prospects Game. Nanaimo is a perfect location, being in the middle of the Island and close to the ferry terminals, it was a no-brainer.”

When it comes to venues, Robinson feels the Pirate Ship, a.k.a. the Nanaimo Ice Centre, is a winner! “We are also proud to showcase what we know is one of the nicest venues in junior hockey. “ It’s hard to argue; the NIC boosts a perfect seating capacity for atmosphere, comfy seats, great sight lines, good food (hockey people from around the VI will tell you about the wraps), involved community partners and incredible fans.

As for the hockey, expect a thrilling ride on Sunday from these 16-18 year olds on the roster for the VIJHL Prospects:

Brendan Rogers (F) and Ben Coghlan (F) from the Nanaimo Buccaneers;

Davis Frank (F), Desmond Arthurs (F), Harkirat Gill (D) and Jonah Chambers (G) from the Victoria Cougars;

Luc Pelletier (F), Riley Braun (F) and Matthew Seale (D) from the Peninsula Panthers;

Cage Newans (F), Elijah Goyer (F) and Trey Boylan (D) from the Oceanside Generals;

Brendan Murray (F) and Jory Swanson (F) from the Campbell River Storm;

Chase Klassen (F), Tory McClintick (D) and Dalan Marleau (G);

Kyle Brown (F) from the Saanich Braves;

Matt Baird (D) from the Kerry Park Islanders, and;

Boden Davis (D) from the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

The coaching staff will be led by Oceanside Generals’ Head Coach Dan Lemmon.

The Nanaimo Buccaneers would like to thank two community partners who stepped forward to be a part of the 2020 VIJHL-PJHL Prospects Game. Coca Cola and Original Joe’s, who will be feeding the boys after the game.

The Nanaimo Ice Centre is located at 750 Third Street.

JORDAN NEUFELD
Comox Valley Glacier Kings

“Jordan (Neufeld) played his best hockey of the season over the past six weeks,” says Comox Valley Glacier Kings’ Head Coach, Jeff Dubois of the VIJHL Player of the Week (February 17-22). “On top of being our top offensive player, he brings a physical presence and puts in a lot of work on special teams. He was the driving force in our win on Monday over Campbell River and has scored a number of big goals this month.”
