July 30, 2007 Bombers Win 6th Annual Vancouver Challenge |
SoCal Bombers won the 6th edition of the Vancouver Challenge. The Bombers were buoyed by the pitching of the Tournament's top pitcher, Lucas Mata, and disposed of the ISC #1 ranked Broken Bow Gremlins 11-2. Broken Bow never really got started in the game and SoCal rocked both Gremlin pitchers Andrew Kirkpatrick and Jeremy Manley. The Bombers were led in this game by Evan Potskin who knocked in 4 runs. Even without Tournament MVP Darren Box in their lineup, due to injury, SoCal never let up. The tournaments top hitter was hometown Grey Sox Derek Mayson. |

July 23, 2007 Piechnik and Zack to be honoured |
The Vancouver Grey Sox and South Hill Sports are pleased to announce the schedule of games for the 2007 Vancouver Challenge Tournament to be held July 27 - 29. Included in the lineup of elite teams is the Horse Lake Thunder from Alberta, featuring legendary pitcher Darren Zack of Garden River Ontario. Zack first rose to prominence in the now defunct Norwest League while starring for the Vancouver Magicians from 1990-92, went on to rewrite the record books while playing in Toronto and Tampa Bay, and is considered by many to have been the best pitcher in the history of the game. Fans will not want to miss the opportunity to see Darren Zack back on the mound at South Hill. A special tribute to two legendary pitchers, Zack and Mike Piechnik of Victoria, now with Portland DeMarini, is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28.
