2008 UK Easter Tour
Canada's under-19 women's (now U20) team won its second straight match of its March tour in the UK, by downing an England under-19 development side 19-15 at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire on Friday evening. Canada blanked a Scottish development squad comprised of U18 players on Wednesday by a 53-0 score.
Interim head coach Scott Harland of Manitoba, (normally an assistant to John Coumbe-Lilley) was proud of his charges.
"The game was scrambly and often desperate due to the condition and our lack of time together as a team," he said. "Nevertheless, the progress in certain aspects of our play was obvious, such as mauling and reading the field.
"While there is a lot of work to do around retaining possession and communication the players should all be very proud of the tenacious way that they held on for this important win."
This tour was important for selectors and players alike, as spots on this summer's Canadian under-20 women's team are up for grabs as the Nation's Cup is played in Oakville, Ontario in July. The tournament brings top women's sides from Europe and the USA to Canada to further develop the competitiveness of the women's game.
