MANAGER, NATIONAL WOMEN’S PROGRAM
Meaghan Howat
The Manager, National Women’s Program will be required to support the National Women’s Head Coach (s) and Rugby Canada Leadership team with planning, administrative and team promotional duties associated with all women’s programs (15’s / 7’s / COE / Age Grade). This will include the administration of Rugby Canada’s centralized program in Victoria and players involved in the Athlete Assistance Program (“Carded” players). This person acts as National Team Manager for all events, camps and tours and supports the role performed by volunteers who are managing Women’s Age Grade National teams. The Manager, National Women’s Program has a primary role, under the guidance of the General Manager, Rugby Operations and Performance, to ensure the optimum environment is in place for the Women’s National Program to prepare and succeed on the World Stage (World Cup, Olympics, IRB Series, Pan Am Games, etc).
Meaghan Howat is currently employed as the Manager, National Women’s Program. She has been with Rugby Canada since October 2012, but was on board in a voluntary role helping build the marketing efforts of the women’s program since the fall of 2011. Meaghan manages all aspects of the women’s program including the Senior Women’s 15s and 7s and Under 20 Women. She hopes to grow the teams’ profile in Canada through greater marketing and promotion while supporting the athletes and the coaching staff.
Meaghan completed a H.BSc Degree in Biochemistry at the University of Guelph in 2007 and an MBA Degree, with a concentration in Marketing and Corporate Finance, from the University of Notre Dame in 2011. She has an extensive background in rugby and played all four years at the University of Guelph acting as the Captain in her final two seasons. In addition to playing hockey for the Gryphons she was also Chair of the Athletic Advisory Council in her final year. She has also represented Canada at the U23 and senior level as well as playing overseas with the London Saracens. Previously she was the Marketing Coordinator with the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club and worked in Events Marketing at the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department while attending as a student.
