MANAGER, NATIONAL SENIOR MEN’S PROGRAM
Brent Johnston
The Program Manager supports the National Head Coach and the High Performance Manager with administrative duties associated with the senior national squad of players. This squad consists of National Senior Team members, Canada “A” Team members and National Sevens Team members. This person acts as National Team Manager for all events, camps and tours. The role includes all organizational and administrative matters associated with these activities as well as day-to-day operations. It includes, but is not limited to, budget management and monitoring, itinerary planning and the preparation of daily agendas when in camp or on tour. Planning travel arrangements for players and team staff, kit preparation, logistical arrangements and incidental team management functions are also included in the role. The Team Manager is also responsible for communicating the on-going operations of the team during camps and tours by providing frequent progress updates to the Director of Rugby.
Brent Johnston took over the position of National Senior Men’s Program Manager in Fall of 2009. After a short time in the position, Brent completed his first tour with the Canadian fifteens team to Japan followed by Canada’s first ever Test against Russia in Vancouver. After retiring from his long career with the BC government in various capacities, most recently in the Public Service Agency, Brent became the full time manager for both the sevens and fifteens teams, based out of the Victoria office. Brent toured with the 7’s program to the famous Hong Kong Sevens in March 2010 and the fifteens team to the Churchill Cup in June, where Canada clinched the Bowl title and finished 2nd behind England Saxons respectively.
Born and raised in Victoria, Brent has spent the majority of his life involved in rugby on Vancouver Island and calls the Castaway Wanderers RFC his home club. Brent was the General Manager of the club from 1991 until taking his position with Rugby Canada, but continues to be a devoted spectator when he can make his way to Windsor Park in Victoria..
He lives with his wife Coleen and two children in Victoria, BC.
