MANAGER, HIGH PERFORMANCE MATCH OFFICIALS
Dr. Trevor Arnold
The Manager, High Performance Match Officials is responsible for the development and accreditation of high performance match officials. The Manager, Rugby Development reports to the General Manager, Rugby Operations and Performance. The role requires a significant liaison with the International Rugby Board’s Referee Manager and acting as a link between the IRB and Regional and Provincial Referee Societies based across Canada. The role also entails a responsibility to monitor the rugby content of all national competitions and tournaments.
Dr. Trevor Arnold is currently employed as the Manager, High Performance Match Officials for Rugby Canada after having retired in 2003 as Professor of Health and Human Performance at Central Queensland University in Australia. Upon retirement he immediately became committed to volunteering his time in the area of referee development with the Queensland Rugby Union and more recently Rugby Canada. This eventually resulted in him serving Rugby Canada in a variety of roles, most recently as Director of Rugby.
He has a Rugby background as a player, coach, referee, referee coach, referee development officer and citing commissioner. He has served for many years in rugby administrative roles including as a club president as well as many varied roles on Queensland Rugby Union committees.
Trevor has had over thirty years of teaching, research, management and consultancy experience in universities and colleges around the world including Australia, Canada, USA, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, France and United Arab Emirates. His area of teaching and research expertise was in the domain of sport management, sport & the law, ethics in sport, sport planning & development, sport & government policy as well as sport marketing. On many occasions, he has been called upon to act as a planning consultant or as a management consultant to government departments, local government authorities, sporting bodies, professional advisory bodies and volunteer agencies. Wherever Trevor’s university roles have taken him around the world he has also become involved in local Rugby development that has enabled him to develop and maintain a worldwide range of Rugby contacts and advisors.
