Read to Succeed Books are to be implemented in the Elementary School Visits that the players do throughout the hockey season.
Sponsored by Sunrise 2000 Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Quesnel, MLA Bob Simpson, Gillin Accounting, and the Quesnel Millionaires Junior "A" Hockey Club. The five sponsors know the importance of literacy and are very proud to have the these books implemented in the Elementary Schools.
The program is set for grades 2-5, but can be implimented in other grades. The aim of this literacy program is to help motivate children to read. Children are often influenced by their heroes. The Quesnel Millionaire players visit classrooms throughout the school year and read to students from a series of children's books, authored by Lorna Schultz Nicholson. These books have a hockey theme and also include many life values as the players want to leave youth in the community with a positive message.
Lorna's books have been recommended by Wayne Gretzky.
"Lorna's books are a great read for kids and their parents. They really help teach the importance of having good values, both in hockey and in life."
