Bulldog Flyers 2009
Flyers end 3-game losing streak by crushing a bunch of Wise Guys!
- Submitted by
After losing 3 straight games for the first time in recent memory, our Flyers were anxious to have a strong game -- even if it was against our league's worst team......plus we had "The Scatch" back from the injury bay --- so things were looking good!

In the 1st period, we scored early as new spare Keith broke the ice 2 minutes in....but we'd only get 2 more goals that period (by Bernie and Scatch)....although you could tell the floodgates were about to open up.....

Sure enough, in the 2nd period, we outscored the Wise Guys 8-1 including 2 more goals for Bernie on one shift (he actually looked like he had 3 on that shift, but linemate Fynn got a piece of the first one)......and D-man Rich also capped off his hat-trick in that period, although he'd be the first to say was a little lucky on at least a couple of those.....

And in the 3rd period, Richie would get our next goal too -- this was one literally from behind our goal-line -- their goalie actually played well overall, but a couple of the goals he should have had......Billy, Prevost and Colin would finish off the scoring making the final 15-3 for our Flyers who hopefully picked up some confidence going forward....

It should be noted that although we're only 1-3 on the season, our 24 goals against (team defence) is tied for 4th best overall and only 2 goals worse than the 2nd best defensive team --- so there's hope if we can get our offence rolling --- having Scatch back will help big time in that department....

Stats for the game: Keith 1G, 2A.....Prevs 1G, 2A.....Bernie 3G, 2A.....Rich 4G, 1A.....Scatch 1G, 2A.....Patty 1G, 2A.....Fynn 1G.....Colin 2G, 1A.....Yeates (our goalie!) 1A......Billy 1G.....

Our Flyers 3 Stars as votes by our teammates:

---- #1 ---- it was actually VERY close voting for all 3 game stars, but the nod goes to D-man Rich who got some lucky goals, but he also created those chances and bunch more for himself and almost every other Flyer.....

---- #2 ---- goes to our other hat-trick man Bernie -- at least 2 of his goals were typical Bernie-Cannons and he also worked as hard as anyone at both ends of the floor.....

---- #3 ---- goes to our quietly very effective hybrid player Colin who was on D for this one and he notched 2 nice goals, assisted on another, and made about a dozen other nice plays that were obviously noticed by his teammates.....

Honourable mention goes to Scatch who got one 1st-star vote along with a few other votes for his strong play and just overall relief to have the big guy back in our line-up......also getting votes were Patty (including a 1st-star vote!), Keith, and Prevs....

NO GAME next week as we're off for Thanksgiving --- so our next game is Oct. 19th at 6:00pm against the strong Black Eagles run by our former teammate Rob --- should be a fun game!
