QUISPAMSIS, N.B. – A veteran and a rookie led the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild to a big road win on Friday night.
Second-year forward Chandler Wood scored a hat trick while rookie goaltender Chad Arsenault remained undefeated in the Wild’s 4-2 decision over the Saint John Vitos.
The second-place Wild improved to 9-4-1 (won-lost-overtime losses), and opened up a three-point lead over the third-place Vitos (8-6-0) in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.
The Wild home game against the Fredericton Caps (4-8-0) on Saturday night has been postponed due to possible wind restrictions on Confederation Bridge.
At the Q-Plex, Wood’s third goal of the game – a power-play marker – at 7:24 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie, and proved to be the winner. Marc Richard added an insurance goal at 11:43. Ryan Richards (2), Colby MacArthur (2), Frank Fortin and Clark Webster contributed assists.
Caleb Kean and Dalton Dunn replied for the Vitos.
The Wild led 2-0 after the first 20 minutes, but the teams were tied 2-2 following two periods.
Arsenault made 38 saves while improving to 7-0 as the Vitos outshot the Wild 40-28 overall. Arsenault, who is from St. Raphael, near Wellington, has a 2.25 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.
Pride game postponed
Friday night's game between the Northern Moose and Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride in Montague was postponed due to the closure of the Confederation Bridge.
