The AIHL has announced the outcome of a Disciplinary Committee Review into a Player Safety incident that occurred in Week 18.
Game 136: Brisbane Lightning vs Adelaide AdrenalineAt 5:17 remaining of the 3rd period, an incident occurred involving Brisbane Lightning #37 which was penalised during the game as a Minor Penalty under Rule 61.1: Slashing. The incident was raised to the Department of Player Safety who reviewed the incident and submitted the matter for further disciplinary assessment. Brisbane Lightning #37 has been suspended for two games, under Rule 58.3: Butt-Ending, to be served in Game 145 against Perth Thunder in Week 19 on 10 August and Preliminary Final 1 against Melbourne Ice in Week 21 on 23 August.
Brisbane Lightning elected to have the matter heard by the AIHL Disciplinary Committee. The AIHL Disciplinary Committee determined that Brisbane Lightning #37 engaged in the offence of Butt-Ending (Article 58.3 of IIHF Rulebook 2023/2024) and issued a two game suspension for the offence, with one game suspended. The one game is suspended for the period which runs to the end of the 2024 AIHL season including any AIHL Finals games. The trigger for the suspension will be any Major Penalty offence that takes place in an AIHL game or a game in any other IHA sanctioned league or competition. With Brisbane Lightning #37 having already served one game, he is otherwise now eligible to return to play for his Team.
