Kearley Commits to University of Vermont
- Submitted by

Township of Langley, BC (Wednesday, January 21, 2015) – The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce defenseman Jacob Kearley has earned an NCAA Division I scholarship to the University of Vermont.

“It’s a big honour for me,” said Kearley. “I’m looking forward to going to school and playing hockey in Vermont.”

The 19 year old from Newmarket, Ontario is in his second season in the BCHL and leads all Rivermen defensemen with 24 points in 40 games this season. He has also shown he’s not afraid to mix it up and use all of his 6-foot-4 220 pound frame as he leads the team with 61 penalty minutes.

“Jake has been one of the best defensemen in the league this season,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. “He has shown that he has both the offensive and defensive capabilities to be successful in his future hockey career. We’re excited for Jake.”

In December, Kearley was invited to the Team Canada West selection camp for the 2014 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. He spent last season with the Victoria Grizzlies, scoring 26 points in 57 games.

Notable names to play for the University of Vermont Catamounts hockey program include NHL stars and Stanley Cup winners Martin St. Louis, Patrick Sharp and Tim Thomas.

The Rivermen would like to congratulate Kearley on this major accomplishment and wish him best of luck at the University of Vermont.
