Week 22: Vibe, Rebels in battle for first place

The Kamloops Vibe and North Shore Rebels go into the final weekend of the season separated by one point atop the SCWHL standings.
The Vibe took three of four points from the Meadow Ridge Moose in Kamloops in Week 22, pulling to within a point of the Rebels.
Kamloops doubled the Moose 4-2 Saturday evening, getting two goals from Katy Thorne and one each from Rochelle Smith and Natalie Knight. Leah Buchanan and Sydney Kreps replied for the Moose.
Sunday morning, the Vibe and Meadow Ridge played to a 2-2 tie. Kirsten Langston and Emily Duchak staked the Moose to a 2-0 lead after two periods. Kamloops pulled even with goals from Smith and Haylee Gosselin in the third period.
The defending provincial champion Rebels also played to a 2-2 tie Sunday morning, splitting the two points with the Burnaby Mountain Capitals. Taylor Thurston assisted on a goal by Elexa Pakozdy then scored the game-tying goal with two and one-half minutes to play. Indianna Wainman and Lauren Mackay were the goalscorers for the Capitals.
The Moose finished the weekend in third place, just one point ahead of both the Fraser Valley Jets and South Fraser TNT.
The TNT blanked the Island Surge 7-0 Friday night at the Langley Events Centre. Michelle Ziegler scored twice and assisted on two others to lead the South Fraser offence. Carlyn Shimizu and Taralyn Suzuki also scored twice for the TNT, with Steph Strymecki adding a single. Melinda Choy made 13 saves for the shutout.
The Jets edged the Surge 3-2 Sunday afternoon, with goals coming from Natasha Steblin, Silvia Traversa and Jenna Proulx. Sydney Cole and Tesla Moisey scored for the Island.
The Richmond Devils won a pair of games Saturday, starting with a 2-0 victory over the Island Surge in the afternoon with Marisa Chau and Ashley Specht netting the goals.
A few hours later, the Devils surprised the Jets 4-0. Chau, Specht, Laura Horwood and Emily Costales tallied for Richmond. Jenna Ehling made 30 saves for her second shutout of the day.
The final game of Week 22 was a 1-0 win by the Burnaby Mountain Capitals over the Surge Saturday evening. Wainman got the Capitals goal, and Breanna Hollingshead made 18 saves for her first shutout of the season.
