It all started with a convincing win over NDD. Some may say NDD were missing key guys....i recall captain BOB and not being there for the shockers, as well as TONY missing the first quarter of the game.--- Then, the infamous round two: Dragons toyed with the Shockers in game one. iN GAME 2..After the first half Shockers were down 5-1 (5-0 if not for a late goal!) Was it time to break out the champagne? To order the Pizza? Noooooo....Shockers scored a second goal, then a third, then a fourth! But time had run out...and with 10 secs left the crowd counted down..9 ..8..7..6..5..4..3..Shockers SCORE!What a miracle! The second half was DOMINATED, and i repeat DOMINATED by the shockers and through hard work and dedication they tied it up...carried the work ethic into OT and won! Game three was mired in controversy...with shortened periods, a late penalty, an ejection (well-deserved ejection). But the Shockers overcame all odds to beat the Dragons 2-1 and move on to the finals. SOME may say lucky! Some may say bad referrees! I SAY THIS...ONCE AND FOR ALL...in the last three periods (no matter how long they were) the Dragons could only score 1 goal against the Shockers. That is why they lost.End of story....they were simply outplayed and outworked...they took the Shockers too lightly. Yes the penalty at the end was hard to swallow...if they were a good team, they would kill ONE penalty and try to win the game...two minutes did not decide that series. Shockers deserved to win.
And they proved it in the finals where their outstanding defence continued. Even without ALLSTAR defenceman BIG BEN, beating the Hired Guns 2-1 in their first meeting, and then proving to the league they deserved to be champions by thrashing them 10-0 in the final game. Yes, the Guns were short players...perhaps Thursday's game was a schedule mishap...but where was their team Friday?
To recap, it was a great season. The playoffs were fun and exciting. The Shockers' victory was a cinderella story to be retold to your grandchildren one day. Was it a fluke? Are there any truth to the excuses? I think they deserved everything they accomplished. Leonard Luedee proved why he is the best goalie in B...with a 0.67 GAA in his final three games. But the victory and MVP goes to the entire team..who worked hard TOGETHER...wanted it the most...and NEVER gave up. I can't wait for next year to see whether or not the Shockers will continue to SHOCK !!! SHOCK -ON!
