Brother Jimmy's BBQ has officially dropped out of the league. They were the BASL champs in 2012. Manager Dio Jackson has informed me that the Highlanders will not be returning to the league in 2014. Neither will Revolution. West and Sports NY Style have decided to drop out of the league. This leaves the league with 6 teams for 2014 The annual meeting took place Sunday, March 9 at 1:30pm at the 40 West 72 St community room. Special thanks to Jorge Luis Gonzalez, formerly of Highlanders for providing the space and to Ricky Ronda for contacting Jorge. Thanks also to John Rosenmiller for attending the Conservancy + Parks Dept meeting as our league's rep. John reported that the Great Lawn is unavailable on Sunday, July 13 and all of September.
The Parks Dept will be cracking down on dogs inside the fences at Heckscher + the Great Lawn.
I'm very sad to report that Alf Siegel, one of the founders of Choice Parts, has died suddenly of a heart attack in mid-January. He was the team's original 3rd baseman and managed the Parts to several division titles in the early 1980s.
Marc Rosenthal passed away on November 13. He was a substitute player with West's 2007 championship squad and more recently has been an umpire, working with the Lower Manhattan Coed League that plays on the fields next to ours. His presence at the park will be missed
The annual BASL Awards Dinner took place at Dallas BBQ (261 8th Ave + W. 23rd St) on Tuesday, November 12. `All of the award winners were present.

The Finals were won on Sunday, Sept. 29 by Choice Parts at Heckscher #2, taking the series 3 games to 1. John Brown pitched all 4 games for the Parts. Radio Free's Jack Oppenheim pinch hit, setting the record for oldest player in a BASL Finals at age 82. Keep going, Jack!
The Parts' championship was their 11th. They won their 1st in 1986 and appeared in the first Finals I their first year in the league, 1980.
Old rivals Radio Free clashed with Choice Parts in a classic BASL Finals. After 3 games, the Parts are ahead 2 games to 1. This is the 10th time the 2 clubs have met in the Finals. Their 1st Finals encounter was in 1989. Radio Free leads the all-time head-to-head championships 8 to 1. However, Choice Parts won the Finals the last time the two teams matched up, in 2008.
