Big Apple Softball League
2015 season
Old School swept the defending champs the Choice Parts in 3 games to win their first league championship. They came from behind to take the last game 3-2 and threw out the last batter with only minutes of daylight to spare. Defending champ Choice Parts beat Empire 7-6 in the deciding 3rd game to advance to the Finals. Old School swept the Kings earlier to earn their spot. The Finals won't begin until Sept. 20. I am very sorry to hear the shocking news that Victor (Papi) Rodriguez, an active player this year and manager of the Mariners, passed away suddenly a few days ago. My deepest condolences to his son Josh and their family. Congrats to Holland Cowger, former Rangers player, upon the release of his first novel, GLORY DAYS, about baseball. Jack Oppenheim had a base hit on Aug. 9, breaking his own record for oldest player to get a hit, at age 83. He got a hit, RBI and a run in game 2 of the Finals on Sept. 20. Anthony Echevarria of the KIngs pitched a no-hitter Aug 9. This past Sunday, August 2 Pat Freni hosted a memorial for Philly Joe Musetti, a RadioFree/ Contact coach and longtime Central Park fixtureat Heckscher #5, between games 1 and 2 between Empire and Old School, 2 teams that each have several of Philly's old teammates.
