Welcome gentlemen to the St. Margaret's Bay Masters Hockey League 2024-25 season.
I hope everyone had a great summer and you're looking forward to a great season ahead. Over the summer we had some changes to the executive of the League. Shaun Maclean has stepped down as president and I have been nominated to take over his duties.
The executives for this year are:
President: Rich Williams
Treasurer: Derek Chiasson
Team Captains: Joseph Muise, Jamie Lawlor, Bruce MacGregor, and Jean-Marc Chartrand
This year we went back to the original team names of Dozers, Backhoes, Trucks and Loaders. We have a time keeper for games and games will be stop time.
We had an in-house draft to make teams more even and fair. You can view the team rosters and schedule on the website St. Margaret's Master Hockey League - Powered By esportsdesk.com.
We will evaluate teams a few games in and make changes if necessary.
There have been some minor rule changes this year and your captains will relay these changes to you opening night.
The fees this year worked out to be $380/player for the year. You can E-Transfer your fees to the treasurer at derek.chiasson29@gmail.com. Fees need to be paid prior to the first game. The season will run from October 21st, 2024 to April 28th, 2025. Game start times are Monday's at 9:15pm and 10:15pm.
I'm very excited for this new chapter to begin in our league. We have a great group of guys and I hope everyone has a lot of fun this season.

A message from the president. |

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and happy new year!
The leadership team met last week to discuss team parity and rule updates which may be required for our league. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Shaun who will become President next season and Derek who will remain as Treasurer…the league will be in great hands!!
Appreciating how many new quality players have entered the league our group is generally happy with team parity this year. There is no question that the 2023/2024 draft will be far more effective now that we have a clearer picture of individual skill sets. There will be a slight tweak to two team rosters this year as we once again strive for parity.
As identified above, the speed and skill of play has elevated with so many quality players entering our league. We had a detailed discussed regarding a legitimate hockey play which we feel is now causing some issues and is a safety concern. The leadership team holds the opinion that ‘cutting into centre ice’ in order to create a scoring play places the goalies, defensemen and ultimately the offensive player at risk of injury. As such, the leadership team has decided there will be no cutting into centre ice / driving to the net below the offensive hash marks. Again, we recognize that this is a hockey play and it may take time to adjust. If a player does 'cut in’ below the hash marks, the refs will be asked to halt play and hold a face-off outside the offensive zone. We had an incident a few years back where a skilled player did cut in too close to the crease and unfortunately broke his league in several places. First and foremost this is a recreational league where fun and safety remain our primary objectives.
Each Captain will remind their respective teams of the new rule and willingly answer any questions or address concerns. I believe we will all need to support one another in order to implement this rule change as we can’t place this solely on the ref’s shoulders!
I am also willing to answer any questions anyone may have regarding this or any other topic. I believe our league is both fun and in a very healthy position which is reflective of the quality individuals you all are!!
