The Hunter Ice Skating Stadium - HISS

The Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is located two hours north of Sydney in Warner's Bay near Newcastle. It is home to the AIHL NorthStars and Australian Champion and Olympic figure skater Kailani Craine.

HISS Facilities and Services

StarPucks Café

StarPucks has a range of hot and cold drinks, hot food, and confectionery. In addition, there is an air-conditioned dining area to warm up in when you are not on the ice.

Licensed Bar

The rink has a range of full and mid strength beers, ciders, wine, and pre-mixed spirits available for purchase.

The HISS has complimentary WiFi for our guests, so you can upload all your favourite moments to your social media platforms.

Parking

There are approximately 75 off-street parking spaces, including disabled spaces. Guests can find additional parking on the connecting access road.

ProShop

Skater's Network Newcastle is located in the HISS and stocked for all your Ice Hockey, and Figure Skating needs. If there is something particular you are after and we don't have it, we can order it for you.

The ProShop also stocks Newcastle NorthStars merchandise for all of your game day apparel.

What's On

The rink regularly hosts figure skating, ice hockey, and school and public skating sessions. To find out what is on and then be sure to visit the HISS Session Times. You can also reserve the rink for Birthday parties and group or corporate events.

Figure Skating

Figure skating is all about grace, style, precision and fun. If you are interested in becoming a figure skater or would like to know more about the sport, please visit the Hunter Ice Skating Club website.

The club runs learn to skate programs throughout the week. It is open to anyone, whether you want to learn figure skating, refine your skills as an ice hockey player, or just want to learn how to get out there without falling over.

Ice Hockey

The Newcastle Ice Hockey League (NIHL) is the first step in playing competitive ice hockey in Newcastle.

The senior competition is open to ages 14+, and the junior competition is for 14U. Players interested in joining the leagues are drafted into divisions and teams based on their playing experience. Complete protective equipment is required. We offer competitions year-round, being winter & summer.

The National Sports Academy (NSA) also run a Learn 2 Play program. So long as you can put on a pair of skates, you are never too young or old to start playing this fantastic sport!

What size rental skates do you have?

Our Rental Skates range from a Kids 9 up to an Adults 14.

What's the age limit for ice skating?

There's no defined age limit - it's completely up to the parents to decide if their children are ready to try the ice.

What if I can't skate?

We have frames for beginners to hold onto until they are confident enough to try skating on their own.

Can I bring a wheelchair or a stroller onto the ice?

This is perfectly OK as long as there is constantly a responsible person in control of the stroller or wheelchair.

Do you have lockers?

Lockers are available for securing your belongings - at a cost of $3 for 2 hours and $1 for each hour after that to a max of $6 for the day.

Can I bring food in?

Unfortunately we do not allow external food to be brought into the ice rink.
