THURSDAY
Norway House made the trip over to OCN to take on the Storm, hoping to avenge their opening night defeat at the hands of OCN. Norway House opened the scoring in the first, with Kaden Munroe slipping one past Ron Fiddler to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. OCN would tie it up early in the second, with Keith Monias scoring35 seconds into the second period. Norway House would score two more, before OCN would close the gap to 3-2 with Chavez Constant drawing them within one to take them to the second period. The second intermission ‘pep talk’ did wonders for the Storm, as they would come out in the third and score five unanswered goals off the sticks of Monias (2), C. Constant, Dion Fontaine and Bryson Webicki-Mallet to secure a 7-3 victory. Ron Fiddler and Braxton Constant would stop a combined 28 of 31 shots for OCN, while Norway House’s Dominic Bernitic would take the loss stopping 51 of 58 pucks thrown his way.
FRIDAY
The OCN Storm travelled to Thompson to do battle with the NCN Flames in the season and home opener. A scoreless first period featured scoring chances for both teams but they would head to the intermission scoreless. NCN would get themselves on the board in the second with Keistin Saunders scoring 5:35 in, followed by goals off the sticks of Trent North and Jerome Linklater on the powerplay to take a 3-0 lead into the second intermission. Linklater would score again to put the Flames up 4-0 halfway through the third. This is when OCN would lose their ‘bus legs’ and put on a show. Austin Wilkie would send Bryson Webicki-Mallet in on a shorthanded breakaway to put the Storm on the board. NCN would then run into penalty trouble, with Werbicki-Mallet potting his second on the powerplay 43 seconds later to bring them within two. 52 seconds later Werbicki-Mallet would slide his third goal in 1:35 to bring the Storm within one. Noah Butler would tie it up 30 seconds later on the powerplay on a goalmouth scramble. With NCN on their heels tied at 4, Keistin Saunders would carry the puck down 1 on 2 into OCN’s end, and slip one past Storm goaltender Braxton Constant with 9 seconds left to secure the 5-4 victory for the Flames. OCN finished 3 for 5 on the powerplay, while NCN would finish 1 for 7.
SATURDAY
OCN would then travel to Nelson House to do battle with the NCN Flames in an afternoon tilt. Chasin Thompson would stake the Storm to an early 1-0 lead 1:58 into the first. Charles Monger would score his first of the season 1:43 later to tie the game at one. Tanner Barbeau would give the Storm a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission on a nice play set up by Chasin Thompson and Dion Fontaine. OCN would continue with their quick starts to periods, with Mack Hunter scoring 1:04 into the second on a goal assisted by Chasin Thompson and Bryson Werbicki-Mallet, who collected his 10th point in four games. NCN would draw back within one with Trent North scoring 24 seconds later, but that would be all NCN could muster as Keith Monias and Dion Fontaine would score shorthanded to give OCN their third win on the year with a 5-2 victory. Braxton Constant would stop 34 of 36 to get the win, with Braedin Melstad stopping 28 of 33 for the Flames.
