The WWHL held its Annual AGM Meeting as required by Hockey Alberta on August 19, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. with all representatives present, or connected via phone. Vacant positions were filled, and motions made to develop the WWHL's strategic plan, business plan, to improve its branding and marketing and create exciting and innovative supports for players. As well, the league representatives are meeting with potential teams. The business model for the WWHL is different than almost any other current model, and is conducive to the fact that women's hockey does not have available capital. Under the WWHL model, teams are franchaises. They manage their internal operations and financial affairs but agree to abide by a set of guiding principles that govern agreed upon aspects of the league. The league expanded its executive to include the Chair, Vice Chair of Operations, the Vice President of Marketing and Finance, the Vice President of Strategic Planning and a Player's Rep for each team. The team owners were elected as Governors, with one team manager elected to oversee the development of a new wwhl team.
Details will be announced soon. League play will begin in the fall of 2011 and be completed by March 2012. The top one or two teams will contend for the Clarkson Cup to be held in Niagra on March 22-25, 2011. See you there.
