Des Moines Buccaneers "Stick with Reading" Program

Call the Bucs' office at 278-2827 or e-mail ryan@bucshockey.com to sign your classroom up for a visit from the Bucs' Players. Each classroom visit can be taylored to coincide with recent lesson plans including visits centering on the importance of education, fitness, being a good team player (i.e. importance of good character) or any other lessons.


Visits are perfect for K-6 classrooms and last roughly 15-20 minutes.

Players are available Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:30-11:30am from October-February. Other time slots may become open upon request.

The Des Moines Buccaneers recognize the importance of reading. More than that, we recognize the fun of reading as it stimulates our imagination and provides relaxation. We’d like to help spread the fun of reading and, of course, hockey to kids around Central Iowa! This program is geared towards promoting good reading habits among students in kindergarten through fifth grade by utilizing Buccaneer player visits and opportunities to win prizes! It is a community service program intended to improve the continued goodwill in our community through the spirit of hockey.
