As you probably know, I wear protective eyewear during games. Last night in a Tuesday division game, I was hit in the eye with a stick. It was an innocent play where the defender (a friend of mine) was trying to get rid of the ball (on the backhand) while an attacker (another friend) was all over him. I thought I was standing far enough away from the play but, in a split second, the defender’s stick came up and hit me directly on the lens of my protective eyewear then slide off and cut the side of my forehead. I lost momentum for a moment but continued playing. It was only after the game that I noticed a scuffmark on my lens: if I had not been wearing my eyewear, I am convinced I would now have a serious eye injury. For those who do not wear protection, perhaps this incident may help you change your mind.
