A comeback against the Mountainview Colts lead the Cochrane Generals to a 3-2 win, Sept. 27, before giving up an early lead against the Okotoks Bisons the next night.
The Colts grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first with goals from Konnor Poitras and Corbin Rae but were kept scoreless for the balance of the game.
Evan Sine opened the scoring for the Gens late in the second from Jayden Barney and Declan Kinch. Gens captain James Quaife scored unassisted to tie the game with three minutes remaining, and it looked to be headed for overtime until Alex Devnich scored his second of the season from Diago Coelho and Evan Sine with 1:17 remaining.
Christopher Ugbaja scored a pair of goals to give the Gens an early 2-0 lead against the Bisons on Sept. 28. After that, it was all Bisons, who went on to a 5-2 win.
Bison Sam Callahan scored his first of two goals on the night on a powerplay from Brandon Jarman. Bison Easton Dean took advantage of another powerplay late in the period to tie it up 2-2.
Ethan MacIntyre and Jady Shigehiro were the other Bisons scorers.
The Gens were limited to just 21 shots on goal, only four in the second, while Cochrane goalie Issaias Maddigan faced 46.
Two weeks into the season, the Gens have a 2-2 record and are fifth in the HJHL south division. At this point of the season, though, the separation between teams is narrow. Only the Medicine Hat Cubs and the Strathmore Wheatland Kings remain undefeated in the 13-team league.
The Gens are in Three Hills Friday night to face the Thrashers before lacing up against the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Oct. 5. The Gens have a four-game home stand starting Oct. 11, when they play the High River Flyers in their anxiously awaited season home opener.
