Gen Declan Kinch scored the first goal in the Gens 6-1 home opener against the High River Flyers.

The Cochrane Generals open their two-game homestand this weekend tonight (Oct. 18) at 8 p.m. against the HJHL defending champion Okotoks Bisons.

Sunday at 2:30 p.m., the Red Deer Vipers are in town for their first game of the season against the Gens.

After six games on the road, fans packed Totem One for the Gens home season opener. The Gens sailed to a 6-1 win over the High River Flyers.

The shoe was on the other foot the next night in a 5-2 loss to the Medicine Hat Cubs, who have taken over the top spot in the south division. Med Hat took a 4-0 lead into the second before Diago Coelho scored an unassisted powerplay goal.

Callen Prosofsky scored a short-handed goal less than two minutes later to reestablish the four-goal margin. Gen Evan Plewes rounded out the scoring, assisted by Coelho and Evan Sine.

Eight games into the season, it remains a tight race in the south division. It was confirmed last weekend when the High River Flyers rebounded with their first win of the season, a lopsided 6-1 victory over the Coaldale Copperheads. The Bisons were shut out by the Red Deer Vipers, 4-0, to slip into second.

The Gens are just two points behind with a 5-3 record.

The Red Ded Vipers are second in the north division with a 4-3 record.
