Wednesday Wrap-up - Week Six

Wednesday Wrap-up - Week Six

Webmaster

As we head into the snow-filled portion of the KJHL schedule, we saw three games take the ice last week. Results saw the Cross Lake Islanders fall to the OCN Storm 11-3, and the Peguis Juniors sweep the visiting NCN Flames by scores of 10-2 and 12-7.

Thursday's matchup saw the Storm score early and often in a rout of the Islanders. The Storm would see two players put up six point nights with Damon Constant (2G, 4A) and Chavez Constant (2G, 4A) put their marks on the Storm's offensive outburst. The Storm would also get goals from Hutton Hurst-Foster (3G), Rowan Fenner, Chase McLeod and Sheldon Chartier (2G). Nolan Sinclair Jr. would pick up the win between the pipes making 31 saves. The Islanders would get goals from Wilfred Mcleod, Dixon Thomas and Kadin Ross. Peter Ross would make 54 saves in a losing effort.

Saturday action would see the NCN Flames hit the road south to take on the Peguis Juniors. Bus legs proved real on Saturday night, as the Juniors would put up double digits, with goals off the sticks of Sundance Paul, Lyle Murdock, Tyrell Sinclair, Keenan McPherson, Jamie Matwayashing (2G), Gabrial Beaulieu (2G), Dion Fonataine and Keelin Levesrev. Tyrese Bear would make 18 saves and pick up the win. The Flames would get goals from Jerome Linklater and Armando Evans in the loss. Tristan Linklater would make 38 saves in net.

Sunday would see another high scoring affair, that would see the Juniors skate away with another two points. A back and forth first two periods would see things stay close, until the Juniors would outscore the Flames 5-1 in the third period. The Juniors would get goals on Sunday from Sundance Paul (4G), Darian Murdock (3G), Jamie Matwayashing, Gabrial Beaulieu, Dion Fontaine and Keelin Levesrev (2G). Tyrese Bear would backstop the Juniors yet again and would make 25 saves. The Flames would get goals from Keistin Saunders, Jerome Linklater (2G), Curtis Shamanski and Armando Evans (3G). Rookie Landon Hofer made 20 saves in a losing effort.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Another hockey season is among us and I can’t express how excited we the KJHL are for another exciting season. A brief update on the KJHL, due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, the Waywayseecappo Wild and the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Selects will be taking a leave of absence for 1 year and will be back next season.  Business will go on per usual and the KJHL will operate with 5 teams, OCN Storm, Peguis Juniors, NCN Flames, Norway House Northstars and Cross Lake Islanders. The season will kick off on October 5th in Peguis as the Juniors host the Cross Lake Islanders and also in Nisichawaysihk as the Flames host the Norway House Northstars.  Every team is looking like a contender this season which means exciting hockey games.  We look forward to seeing you at the KJHL games this season and good luck to all teams!
