TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – BRANDON WHEAT KINGS
For the first time since 2003-04, the year they won their lone national championship, the Brandon Wheat Kings finished the regular season on top of the MMAAAHL standings, posting 39 wins in 44 games for a four-point cushion over the second-place Winnipeg Wild. Brandon’s strength was its offence; the Wheat Kings scored 254 times, 35 more than the Wild, who were the only other team to break the 200-goal barrier. Duncan Campbell and Jordy Stallard led the way up front, finishing one-two in league scoring, and Campbell’s 85 points were the most in an MMAAAHL season since Michael Ferland had the same number for Brandon in 2006-07. The Wheat Kings’ defence wasn’t too shabby either; goaltender Reid Stallard didn’t lose a game all year, going 18-0-1 and finishing as one of just four goaltenders with a goals-against average under 2.00.
