The Sydney Ice Dogs are proud to announce the return of Import Canadian Forward Grant Toulmin for the 2023 season. In 93 AIHL career games over 5 seasons Toulmin has notched an impressive 183 points (71 goals and 112 assists). Last season, Toulmin scored 20 points in just 10 games in his fifth season.
“Is it really a surprise to the AIHL community that Touly is returning to the dogs in 2023? Find me someone in the league that doesn’t have something nice to say about Toulmin! Grant has the respect of his teammates in the locker room and is a constant threat when he is on the ice, his size, stick length and silky mits create havoc every time he touches the ice. Grant is pushing for a big year in 2023, he wants to step up and hopes to one day also represent Australia at an IIHF World Championship - watch this space, expect a ‘determined’ #66 in Ice Dogs colours this year” says Head Coach Kvisle.
The Canadian native boasts an impressive resume with 115 points from 146 professional games across Germany, UK, Hungary and Poland. Toulmin started his junior playing career with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL eventually splitting time between the WHL and BCHL over 5 years notching an impressive 92 points in 119 BCHL games. After junior Toulmin didn’t play pro right away instead opting to play University hockey. In 78 CIS University games he amassed 67 points.
“I can’t wait to get the season started. We’re looking to take a huge step forward as a club, getting ourselves to the finals weekend. It’s exciting to see the pieces come together, with our local talent taking big steps forward, the return of our core group of veterans, strong imports, and a coaching staff with tonnes of success at the International level. We’re setting the bar high for ourselves as a group, knowing the league will be very strong this year, but we expect to have some fun and win some games. Go the Dogs” Says Toulmin.
Toulmin’s 71 goals has him tied second with Scott Stephenson in the clubs all-time leading goal scorers and just 9 goals away from overtaking David Dunwoodie in first place for the Ice Dogs all-time goal scoring record. Toulmin’s 183 points also has him sitting in third behind David Dunwoodie (220 points) and Todd Stephenson (201 points). If Toulmin keeps up his impressive 1.97 points per game clip he could further cement his place to the top of the club and leagues history books.
