Coming off a successful road trip to Tallahassee with 4 wins in 4 matches, the Lightning Boys traveled to Warner Robbins to tangle with the Atlanta Siverbacks, the youth division of the Professional Silverbacks, and the CGSA Strikers. Tangle is exactly what the Lightning Boys did. A very physical and quick Silverback team struck quickly with 2 goals in the first 8 minutes. The Lightning then strapped their boots on a little tighter for the rest of the game and played level score wise for the rest of the match. The Lightning ended up out shooting the Silverbacks 17-5 overall. It is with much credit due to these young boys that they battled until the end against a very physically oriented team from Atlanta.
In the second match of the day, the boys came out roaring, and settled the match in the first half, taking a 4 goal advantage into the break. Clay Peters struck first, with Samuel Stevens following up with two quick strikes, followed by a final tally from Luke Justice. Christian Houglin assisted on all four goals, and anchored a strong defense along with Foley Harp and Dale Kent. Jay Stancliff provided great offensive pressure in the 2nd half. The CGSA Strikers tallied late in the match, but the outcome had long since been decided. Brian Rammel was stellar in goal all afternoon, as was Samuel Stevens.
The Lightning Futbol Club Boys travel back to Warner Robbins this Saturday to face CGSA and Athens United. These matches should again prove to be an exciting challenge as the boys continue to develop in tactics and technical skills.
