Wednesday Wrap Up - Week Two

Week two of KJHL action saw four teams in action over the weekend. The Peguis Juniors kicked off their campaign hosting the NCN Flames for a weekend set, while the Cross Lake Islanders kicked off their campaign hosting the OCN Storm.

Saturday - a back and forth battle in Cross Lake saw the Islanders and Storm settle the game in a shootout, with the Storm walking away with two points in a 7-6 victory. Claude McKay, Daemon Titterton, Chavez Constant and Ron Campbell each chipped in with two points and Damon Constant scored the shootout winner getting the Storm the win. Dreydin Garrick led the way for the Islanders with 3 points, while Kadin Ross chipped in two goals in getting his team a point in the shootout loss. Meanwhile in Peguis, the Flames scored early and often, skating away with a 9-5 victory. Four Flames players had four points each (Keistin Saunders, Curtis Shamanski, Chris Pynn and Armando Evans) while Braedin Melstad made 30 saves in the victory for the Flames. Kyle Cochrane led the way for the Juniors in putting up 3 points, while Tyrese Bear took the loss in net.

Sunday - after a back and forth game Saturday, the Storm would start strong and take a 4-1 first period lead. The Islanders would battle back in the second to tie it, and would finish strong and skated away with a 8-5 victory. Four players (Wilfred Mcleod, Creighton Sinclair, Christian Ross and Dreydin Garrick) would put up 4 point nights, and Marcus and Peter Ross would make 42 saves in the win. Sheldon Chartier would also put up four points, and Pierce Beardy would chip in with a hat trick for the Storm. Down south in Peguis, a strong second period for the Flames would skate them to 2 points and a 9-1 win. Keistin Saunders would lead the way with 4 goals and get support from Jase Robinson would put up 3 points for the Flames. The Juniors lone goal would come off the stick of Sundance Paul in a losing effort.

Week three action kicks off tonight as the Cross Lake Islanders host the NCN Flames in Cross Lake Wednesday night. Saturday will see the Peguis Juniors travel to Cross Lake to battle the Islanders, and the same teams will rematch again Sunday afternoon. Saturday games see puck drop at 7:30pm and Sunday action sees puck drop at 1:30pm.
