Adrenaline fight late into game against Mustangs

Adrenaline fight late into game against Mustangs

Joanna Gruenberg

The Adelaide Adrenaline brought their most competitive game yet to Melbourne as they battled the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon.

Keen to set the tone for the day, the Adrenaline took control of the first period by consistently moving into the offensive zone and taking some big shots against the Mustangs' starting goalie, Logan Flodell. He was able to fend off each attempt and keep the puck in play for the Mustangs, who put two goals past Adrenaline starting goalie, Rylan Toth, before the first intermission.

Daniel Chen took a slashing penalty to start the second period but Josh Adkins and Daniel Koudelka charged the puck forward and set up Kaden Elder for an explosive short handed goal and put the Adrenaline on the board. Adkins continued to get ahead of the play and placed himself in position to score the tying goal midway through the second.

Adrenaline forward Jared Siemens says that focusing on taking an offensive approach is helping his team in the long run. “We’ve been trying to generate more chances in front of the net and even if we can’t get the goal, if we can get it out of our zone then it forces them (Melbourne) to reset and it gives us more time.”

Adrenaline fans were certainly treated to a team confident in taking more chances than seen previously and witnessing one incredible save after another from Toth. However, the Adrenaline struggled to transition safely through the neutral zone in the third period and the Mustangs earned themselves two more goals before the end of the game, and secured the 5-2 win.

The Adrenaline are looking forward to resting up before they take on the Melbourne Ice on Sunday afternoon.
