The Devon Barons are the NCHL's North Division Champions after defeating the Bonnyville Pontiacs 6-3 in game 5 of the North Division finals in Devon on Friday.
The Barons jumped into a 3-0 first period lead that the Pontiacs couldn't recover from. Devon increased their lead to 4-0 before Bonnyville got on the board and the teams traded goals from that point on.
Baron's scoring came from Brandon Powlick 1-1-2, Mason Kunka 1-1-2, Dayton Heino, Chris Van Os Shaw 1-1-2, Austin Cunningham, and Cody Issler. Jordan Cooke picked up the win stopping 41 shots. Janson Pashniak, Denis Cadrin and Mark Ouelette replied for the Pontiacs and Ryan Weitzel took the loss turning away 39 shots.
The Barons now will advance to the Vanberg Cup finals for the first time since they lost to Westlock in 2015. The Vanberg Cup Finals will start next weekend, we should have a schedule in the next couple of days.
