November 22, 2005 Lightning FC Boys take 2nd at Flint River Finale |
|
After a tough draw on day one, the boys tied 2 teams out of Florida. TUFC at 4-4 and The Creeks at 3-3. They played a quarterfinal game at 8am and won over Moultrie 3-1. In the semis, they played at 11am against the 1st ranked team from day one, the Albany Stars. The boys made it through to the Final with a 4-2 win. In the final, tired and worn out, they fought hard in a rematch against TUFC. Down 2-1 with 10 minutes to go, they pushed forward to try and get the equalizer, but a bad bounce put them down 3-1. A second unlucky ricochet had them down 4-1 with about 6 minutes to play. They didn't quit, and found the back of the net to make it 4-2. That was as close as they would get, as pushing all 5 field players forward to try and score quickly left our keeper in a 2 on keeper breakaway which sealed their fate. It was an outstanding match, and the Lighning Boys did themselves proud, as they represented their community with dignity in their first ever competitive tournament. The future is bright for this group of young athletes. Great season and congratulations boys, you did well. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!! |
