Saints Saves 4 Kids #2s4k  (January 2016 to present)

James Prigione is a third year goaltender with the Selkirk College Saints Men's Hockey team. He has been working on creating a legacy for himself and other Saints goaltenders in order to give back to the community.  "I always dreamed that one day I would make a difference in the lives of others, I can now do that while still playing the game I love.."

The general idea started out as this: for the remainder of the 2016 regular season home games, for each save a Saints goaltender makes, $2 will be donated to a fund that will assist sick kids with recovery and/or rehabilitation from an illness.

James and a few others set out to test the waters on finding more pledges of $2 per save and within a few weeks 5 different groups stepped up. The current amount being donated is now $10 per save! General donations are also accepted.

Saints Cuts for Cancer (March 2015)

Saints forward Tyler Kerner, who by this time in the season was supporting a crazy beard and mop of hair decided to coerce a few teammates (Arie Postmus, Logan Proulx, Darnell Dyck) into shaving it all for a good cause. Randy Robinson (Bogie and Bacall in Trail) cut Arie and Tyler's hair and shaved Tyler's beard.
Tyler then went and shaved Darnell’s and Logan’s head. The goal was to raise $1000 so the boys setup donations through the online Canadian Cancer Society portal and to their shock raised $1360 in a week just from family and friends!

Guatemala Nursing Fundraiser (Feb 2016)

Selkirk Nursing students came to the Feb 19 game vs SFU with hopes of raising money to go towards their annual practicum trip to Guatemala. The proceeds will help up to 10 students with costs associated. The Saints donated their entire share of the 50/50 which on this night ended up being a whopping $434!

Donation to Community Food Bank (December 2015)

Upon recognizing the local community food bank is always in need a few of the boys pooled their own money and donated $200 to the local food bank this month

Teddy Bear Toss (Nov 2015)

This was initiated as a term project by business students in 2014, several who were Saints student-athletes. That year the Teddy Bear Toss collected over 90 stuffy's and this year the total climbed to over 110. Many toys weer also donated in the lobby and all proceeds went to support the Castlegar Fire Dept with their annual Toy Drive.

Canadian Cancer Society (2012 - present)

In October of 2015 the Saints donated $132 from their famous Frisbee toss. This was the 4th consecutive year for a donation as in past years they participated in the Movember and Growvember campagins.

Minor Hockey Tournaments (2010-present)

Every year we try and accommodate the numerous requests for donations and we love to support minor hockey and our future student-athletes. For the past several years we’ve able to put together gift baskets that include a variety of items such as signed memorabilia (sticks, hats, Saints apparel, golf balls, game tickets, gym booking certificates etc.). Most of the time these baskets are used for salient auctions that raise critical funds to keep these events and programs going. Special thanks to everyone who volunteers for these types of things….you’re time is more appreciated than you know!

Student Food Bank Drive (2015- present)

For the 2nd year in a row we were absolutely stunned at the generosity of the students, staff and community. The Saints partnered with the School of Health and Human Services in an attempt to bolster the Selkirk College Food Bank. In 2015 we raised 700 items and this year we easily surpassed the 1000 piece mark! This food was distributed to all 8 campuses and centres over the college region.

Special Olympics (2012 to present)

It started out as a once in a while fun thing but ended up being a regular occurrence.  The Selkirk Saints often visit the Trail and Castlegar Special Olympics floor hockey teams for a “friendly” battle on the gym floor. Great times are had by all and friendships were made for life.
This year, Saints forward Tylor Branzsen offered a little extra and volunteers every Wednesday in Castlegar.
Kaslo Golf Course Labour (April 2015)
As part of a fundraiser donation the Saints agreed to provide some hard labour as the main prize. In April of 2015, four student-athletes traveled up to Kaslo to assist with the laying a big load of sod. They were welcomed with open arms, treated like super stars and ended up leaving with some great food and of course the satisfaction of a good days work.
