Peguis Juniors Name New Head Coach!

Peguis Juniors Name New Head Coach!

Webmaster

Peguis, MB – The Peguis Juniors Hockey Club announced today that Kevin Monkman has been named Head Coach and Co-General Manager. Kevin is a father of three with deep roots in the Peguis hockey system, having coached the team in the past.

Monkman rejoins the Juniors with over 10 years of coaching and development experience.  He has most recently spent three seasons as coach with the Prairie Blaze of the Manitoba Women's Junior Hockey League (MWJHL). Alongside his role with the Blaze, he also took on coaching the Team Manitoba male team that has participated in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships over the last 9 years. The team has participated in 7 tournaments (two were missed due to COVID-19), and has won two gold medals and three bronze medals. Prior to his foray into the MWJHL, he was a part of the Juniors staff that has seen him win two KJHL titles along with a silver medal at the Western Canada Junior B Championships. He has also resided in Peguis for a number of years as well as grew up playing minor hockey in the Peguis system.

Monkman is excited to return to his roots in the KJHL. "I am thrilled to be rejoining the Juniors organization and look forward to working with the players and staff to provide a great opportunity to play junior hockey in Peguis. The staff and resources that have been put together for the Juniors makes it a great program for players to develop and move on to the next level.”

Team Governor and Co-General Manager Ryan McCorrister added "We are glad to have Kevin back and look forward to the up coming season. Kevin has shown his love for the game and the team in the past, so transition would be very smooth. We have many players returning, which is great, Kevin will enjoy coaching these young men."

Peguis will start their training camp on the weekend of September 10.
