2024/25 Leadership Group

2024/25 Leadership Group

Moira Bryan

The Wolves are excited to announce the leadership group from the 2024-25 season! With only one member of the group returning, we are excited to introduce some new faces into a larger leadership group than last year.

Captain: #4 Rory Bothwell

This is Bothwell's third year on the Wolves and she is new to the leadership group this year, but not new to leadership as she wore the C for two seasons with her previous team. The two-way centre stepped up last year in a big way, encouraging her teammates, suggesting solutions for areas of improvement for the team, and always commanding and supporting her line mates on-ice. She also led the team in scoring, with 13 goals and 16 assists for a total of 29 points - more than doubling her points from the previous year. Bothwell's passion for the game is unmatched, and she always wants the best out of her teammates. With her high hockey IQ, she excels just as much below the goal line in the defensive zone as she does in the offensive zone. While her point production abilities are certainly an asset, she also is not afraid to grind the puck out along the boards. Bothwell is the 11th captain in the Wolves' 16 year history, and is also the youngest captain that we have ever had. We are so excited to watch her grow and excel in this new role, and to lead the team to even greater achievement than before!

Assistant Captain: #6 Brooklyn Piebiak

Piebiak is in her fourth year on the team and is the only returning member of the leadership group this year. She grew into her role in the leadership group last year, and is an important pillar of the Wolves' team. Piebiak is always an outgoing and friendly face on the team. She is the first to say hi and strike up a conversation with anyone and makes sure that everyone is included. On the ice, Piebiak stepped into a role on the back end last year after playing forward previously. She excelled in her new role, playing physically in the corners and contributing many shots on net from the point.

Assistant Captain: #3 Ainsley McCoy-Birk

McCoy-Birk is new to the leadership group this year, and this is her third year on the team. McCoy-Birk is a power forward, with quick hands and a wicked shot who is not afraid to battle it out in front of the net. She won the AJFHL Paige Peach Heart & Soul Award for her perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey last season after she broke her ankle at the beginning of the season and rehabilitated it to be able to return before the end of the season. McCoy-Birk also won the Wolves Award team award, to the player who embodies the qualities of what it means to be a Wolf. She supports and encourages her teammates, is vocal on the bench, and has excelled in many different roles in the forward lineup.

Assistant Captain: #22 Brenna Reid

Reid is also new to the leadership group this year, and this is her second year on the team. Reid is a powerful centre, with a hard shot and quick draws, and she also is one of the fastest skaters on the team. She leads by example both on the ice and off the ice, working tirelessly on-ice, always on time for everything, and never missing a single team event. With her skills and smarts on the ice and her quiet support off ice, she is a shining example of being a Wolf and is looked up to by many of her teammates.

Assistant Captain: #14 Logan Basterash

Basterash is also new to the leadership group this year, and this is her third year on the team. Basterash is a reliable forward with a nose for the net. She makes smart plays and is always ready to get into the dirty areas, grinding it out on the wall or crashing the net. Basterash is a true student of the game and takes every opportunity to learn and grow as a player. She is highly respected by her teammates and has exceptional communication skills, both on and off the ice.

Assistant Captain: #7 Nayha Johal

Johal is also new to the leadership group this year, and this is also her third year on the team. She is a power forward who excels in battles on the wall and in front of the net, and also has a scoring touch. Johal shows up to the rink with a smile on her face every time and is one of the hardest workers on the ice. She is vocal on the bench and in the dressing room, supporting and encouraging her teammates and making sure the energy and morale is up.  Johal rarely misses a practice, game, team event, or volunteer opportunity and always shows up with a good attitude and a smile on her face.

The Wolves are excited to introduce new faces to the leadership group this year who have recently stepped up and stood out. We are getting into training camp and getting ready for the season, which starts with our home opener against the Amazons on Saturday, Sep. 28, 6 pm at Terwillegar. We hope to see you there!
