Fun Fact: Maria "Candinha" was born in Portugal and moved here as a toddler.

Maria is the only remaining active player since the inception of the league in 1979. Ok, she only started in the 2nd season but STILL!!!! Just like her shirt in this pic, and the Montreal Canadiens being one of the "Original Six", Maria is one of the original girls in this league. In fact, I am pretty sure the league was actually called Dorval Ball Hockey Girls way back then :)

Maria played forward for several years before she found her true calling as a defenceman. She may be tiny but man is she fast and solid as they come when stopping that ball. Maria doesn't have the hardest of shots but is known for scoring on occassion with her "wonky" wrist shot (sorry maria but you know this is true lol ;)

The DWBHL would not be in existence today if not for Maria and the help of other committee members throughout the years. She ran the league as President for many, many seasons, and I learned the secrets of running the league so efficiently from her. Thank you for your dedication to making this league so successful. Hope you'll continue playing for another 30 years...almost positive you'll keep at it until you can longer walk :)
