Tryout Camp Day 3 Recap
- Submitted by
Game #16  Grey vs. Black #1
A shootout would be required between Grey and Black No. 1 but Grey would prevail, winning the shootout 2-1 and the game 2-1. The first period would prove to be a little slow as players returned from a long day of hockey yesterday. Neither team would have many opportunities to score early but as the game went on play started to open up a bit. Thomas Jarman would give Grey the lead 1-0 with his goal with 11 minutes left in the first period. His tally would be the only one of the period.
The second period Black would come out aggressive and looked like they would tie it. Eventually Buccaneer returner Zach Saar would do just that. With 18 minutes still to go in the game Saar brought Black even at 1-1. Both teams had chances where they nearly pulled ahead but the second period would end 1-1.
In the shootout Nik Rados and Wayland Williams would score for Grey and Luke Voltin, another Buccaneer returner would be the one to score for Black.

Game #17 Dark Green vs. Maroon
Dark Green against Maroon looked to be an entertaining game as both teams had scored a lot of goals throughout the camp. They would not disappoint. Maroon would jump out to a 2-0 lead with 17 minutes still remaining in the period. Adam Howey would respond for Dark Green and with 15 minutes left the score was 2-1. Maroon, however, would add another tally just moments later and then Nolan Valleau would score the teams fourth goal of the first period to put them ahead 4-1 with 10 minutes remaining in the period.
Dark Green looked like they were going to make an attempt at a comeback when Matt Seidel scored with 23 minutes still remaining in the second period to cut the lead to 4-2. Seconds later, however, Maroon would tack on their fifth goal of the game and push their lead back to three. Maroon goalie Jett Salinas performed well as Dark Green had their opportunities to cut into the lead throughout the game but he never allowed them back in it. The final would be 5-2 with Maroon winning handily.

Game #18 Blue vs. Red
The Blue Team defeated Red 3-1 on the shoulders of a great goalie performance. Red dominated the first period outplaying Blue and getting many more shot chances than Blue. The story of the first period would be William Chirstopoulos, however, the Blue goalie looked comfortable in the net and stopped everything in the first period. Despite being outplayed, Blue went into the intermission in a 0-0 tie, in large part to the effort by Christopoulos.
The second period would have a much different feel than the first. Blue came out extremely aggressive and Matthew McMorrow would give them a 1-0 lead early in the second period. Blue would add another to go up 2-0. Red would try to get back into the game when Jack Jenkins found Duggie Lagrone who sent one to the back of the net. Christopoulos would continue his stellar play and Blue would add another goal for a final score of 3-1.

Game #19  White vs. Black #2
White got the win over Black No. 2 4-3 after the game went to a shootout. In the early going these teams seemed very evenly matched as they were each getting about the same number of shots. It would be Jake Wahlin striking first for White to give them a 1-0 lead with 21 minutes left in the period. Black would answer with 10 minutes left in the first as Connor McGovern tied the game 1-1.
During the second period there would be a flurry of goals starting with Patrick Schule giving White the lead at 2-1. Black would answer within a minute with a goal by Johnathan Farkas to tie the game at 2-2. Another quick goal from Alex Jasiek gave Black the lead 3-2, but just two minutes later Mike Dockry tied the game 3-3 for White. The rest of the game neither team could find the winning goal and the game went to a shootout.
White would win the shootout 2-0 with goals coming from Wyrrck and Grant Cockerill.

Game #20  Black #3 vs. Light Green
The preliminary games ended with the Black #3 team winning 2-0 over Light Green. Des Moines native Pat Grasso scored the first goal with 15 minutes left in the opening half when the puck bounced in off of his skate blade.  Chris Taft made it 2-0 with under 10 minutes left in the second half and that would be the final score.

Scoring chances and flow to the game was minimal as the teams played their fourth game in less than a 36 hour period and with the added stress of knowing the first round of cuts would be announced shortly after their game.
