The mighty Astros, who have been pacing themselves all season, erupted last night for a 28-9 thumping of the Twins to break into the win column just in time for their playoff matchup with the Mets, who ended their season with a whimper by dropping a 7-5 decision to the Yankees in the evening's opener. The Astros will look to duplicate last year's feat of taking down the #1 seed, which they did to the tune of a 26-3 whuppin' of the #1 Yankees.
With just 2 games to go there are still no other seeds set in stone. Here is the unofficial quick summary of the possibilites (hopefully simple enough for 2K Kucharski to understand):
Winners
Seed Brewers/Expos Brewers/Pirates A's/Expos A's/Pirates
2 Expos Brewers Expos Pirates
3 Brewers Pirates Brewers Expos
4 Pirates Expos Pirates Brewers
5 Yankees Yankees A's A's
6 Twins Twins Yankees Yankees
7 A's A's Twins Twins
Bottom line is that anyone from top half can end up playing anyone from bottom half. The matchups are the same if the Pirates win, regarrdless of the outcome of the first game, but the seeding would be different.
