Last weekend the BCIHL renewed acquaintances with UBC and USports-bound TWU in 3 fast-paced games in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.
On Friday, SFU took on UBC at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. UBC's depth showed as the Thunderbirds took down SFU 8-2, outshooting SFU 29-22. SFU rookie netminder Cale Dolan (Grandview Steelers, PIJHL) entered the game in the first minute after an injury to starter Michael Lenko (English River Miners, SIJHL) and did well against the WHL-riddled UBC offence.
The TWU Spartans also paid a visit to UVIC for the first time since the abrupt cancellation of the 2019/20 BCIHL season. In a spirited affair, the Spartans took down the Vikes 6-0.
On Saturday, TWU headed north to Nanaimo to take on the VIU, earning a narrow 4-2 victory against the Mariners.
This Friday, UVIC and VIU will meet for the third time in pre-season as they play their Captain's Cup matchup. TWU leads the Captain's Cup at 2-0 with UBC sitting at 1-0. For more information about the Captain's Cup tournament, visit http://www.sfuhockey.com/captains-cup/
On Saturday, SFU and the Okanagan Lakers will battle on neutral grounds in Merritt, visiting the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena at 4:00pm. SFU and OKL entertained fans with a 4-3 shootout SFU win on September 11th.
On Sunday, VIU and OKL will meet for the first time, also taking place at Nicola Valley Memorial Arena for a 12:00pm matchup.
The games in Merritt are free for all spectators to attend.
