Two Ottawa legends are among six individuals being inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame later this year.
Rugby star Al Charron and former Ottawa 67’s coach Brian Kilrea will be inducted into the Hall in Toronto on Oct. 23, along with hockey player/builder Father David Bauer, lacrosse and hockey player Jack Bionda, Blue Jays closer Tom Henke, gymnast Elfi Schlegel and National Hockey League defenceman Scott Stevens.
Kilrea coached the 67’s for 32 seasons, also serving as the team’s general manager, winning 1,193 games. Already inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Kilrea was also an assistant coach with the NHL’s New York Islanders from 1984 to ’86.
Charron, the former captain of Canada’s team, is already in the World Rugby Hall of Fame. Between 1990 and 2003, he earned 76 national team caps, all as a starter. He also played in four Rugby World Cups.
