David Carrington: A Legacy of Dedication and Vision

IHNZ

In 2015, David Carrington was awarded the inaugural "Volunteer of the Year" award at the IHNZ's 20th Anniversary National Club Championships in Hamilton. This recognition honored his decades-long commitment to the sport of inline hockey in New Zealand.

David was instrumental in the development of the Ravens School League since its inception in 1997. His vision for the sport extended far beyond local games—he was a driving force behind the establishment of an international skating facility in New Plymouth, meeting the needs of a growing community of inline hockey enthusiasts in the early 2000s. Working tirelessly alongside other dedicated families, David led a feasibility study, budgeted, and secured funding to make this facility a reality, providing hands-on oversight throughout its construction.

David’s contributions weren’t limited to infrastructure. As a player, coach, referee, and New Zealand representative, he played an active role in the game. He also served as a financial advisor, executive member of NZIHA, New Plymouth Club President, and chaired the Ravens Inline Branch during the mid-2000s player boom. David lent his expertise to the Central Region Committee, offering financial insights, coaching, and even contributing to the disciplinary committee.

The 2015 award was a testament to his unwavering dedication to inline hockey. To this day, David maintains a keen interest in the sport, with his legacy carried on by his children. His daughter, Anna, also represented New Zealand as a player and coach, mentoring younger players and continuing the family’s commitment to growing inline hockey.
