IHNZ is proud to recognize Willy Harvey as a Life Member.

Inline Hockey New Zealand is proud to recognize Willy Harvey as a Life Member for his unparalleled contributions and dedicated service to the sport. Willy has been a cornerstone of the Ravens club, Skate Sports Taranaki and the New Plymouth rink, tirelessly supporting their growth on the land of Parihaka. As Chair of Skate Sports Taranaki, Willy has not only overseen its operations but personally taken charge of the venue’s maintenance, dedicating countless hours of his own time to maintain and improve the facility. 

Willy’s impact extends well beyond Skate Sports Taranaki and the Ravens. He has been instrumental in supporting the New Plymouth school league that David Carrington and Krys Beardman established in 1997. The New Plymouth school league has fostered national champions and developed talented players, including Willy's three sons. A qualified referee, Willy is a familiar face on the rink, often spotted on skates supporting players from all clubs. 

Willy has also been a pioneer in supporting Māori representation within inline hockey. As the IHNZ Kaumātua, he has guided the formation of the IHNZ Māori team, which celebrates its 10th anniversary next year. His vision has brought the Matariki tournaments to life, and he has worked diligently alongside IHNZ to develop the Māori Inline Hockey Strategy, aimed at growing the sport among Māori communities. 

In a year marked by profound challenges and transition, Willy stepped up to ensure the continuity of IHNZ during a period when the Board was dissolved. His leadership and stability were vital. 

For his lifelong commitment, leadership, and enduring vision, it is our great honor to award Willy Harvey with Life Membership in Inline Hockey New Zealand. IHNZ celebrated this honor with Willy, along with the team captains, at the National Premier League’s Final at the IHNZ National Club Championships on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
