Singing in the Showers

Singing in the Showers

Walbridge

Tonight’s B2 Carmel Hockey by the Highways, Byways, and Roundabouts is brought to you in part by the aurally pleasing acoustic environment of singing in the Showers with the Golden Boys.  Golden Domers have nothing on America’s team singing songs of victory in the Showers with an open ceiling design meant to allow the entire rink to hear these dogs howling.  Tonight’s Golden Showers concert followed the featured game of the week against the fearsome Above Average Joe’s.  The last matchup between these two elite beer league teams was in September, and the Double A Joe’s undressed America for the amusement of the world to see, as they hammered the USA 10-3 on the 28th.  But, Americans have grown accustomed to the tight confines of Bestfield and the eclectic nature of West Coast start times.  We even made a powerplay attempt at getting Fitzgerald because our bribes for air traffic controllers were spent in vain, and missing Peters is a problem.  Sleeping giant was there, roaming, and got a point.

I complimented the scorekeeper because that’s what I always do, but I’m now realizing that our dude didn’t put any time stamps for goals or penalties.  I did mention specifically today that I appreciated the artistry of various scorekeepers, and I asked him if he signed it.  Fortunately, this game had a defensive playoff intensity, which is probably latent aggression because no league games on the Detroit Lions’ National Holiday of thanks.  Talus centered one of our lines, with me and Williams.  Rhodes passed it up to Talus at some point in the first period, and Talus circled behind the net, which he is known to do.  Talus will put the puck in front of the net frequently in these situations, so I try to get rewarded for being there.  This time, it either went off defensive player or Dudley’s skate into the net.  1-0 to end one period.  A penalty for each team in the first, both for tripping.

At a certain point in the second period, Howe sent Hume streaking down the right side.  Waller gets credit for the 2nd assist, as Hume used his patented speed to create a break, then buried a beautiful goal in upper short side against Harter, who played another remarkable game.  Both goalkeepers played well because Bestfield creates quick offensive opportunities.

I don’t need the scorekeeper to remember that Kang scored like 10 seconds later, but it would be cool to have objective 3rd party evidence.  An American treasure named Rhodes took a penalty in the 2nd for high sticking, but penalty killing was stellar all night for a team trying to avoid getting scored upon 10 times again.  The second period ended 2-1, Showers.

Third period scoring started with yours truly, which ended up being the winner.  Benson moved it to center ice and Talus, who chipped the puck over to me on the left wing.  Most everyone knows me in this league, so I was looking to pass back to Talus the entire time from the blue line on a two on one break.  Certainly, the defender knew this too and took away the pass.  Running out of space, I decided to try for short, high corner.  I flubbed it, but it snuck neatly along the ice, through the 5-hole and validating the legend of the Golden Jacket.

Then, Ingersoll scored a credited goal off a Rhodes stick block attempt right next to the launch point.  It turned into a water bottle denter-goal from Peterson and Lewis.  But, Americans are counting that goal for Rhodes.  Talus added an empty netter, and the Golden Showers won 4-2.

The Golden Tone Singers in the Showers after the game is a thing of legends.  Motown has nothing on your team, right here in Carmel.  We celebrated being 5-4-1 going into the bye week, thankful mostly for no serious injuries.
