Job Posting: Head Coach, Cochrane Generals

The Cochrane Generals are accepting application for the Head Coach positions for the 2017-2018 season. Please provide a detailed resume with at least three references to cochranegenerals@gmail.com.

Head Coach 

  • Serve as spokesperson on behalf of the team
  • Coordinate the delegation of responsibilities to the assistant coaches
  • Plan on and off-ice activities in consultation with the assistant coaches
  • Prepare appropriate plans for each practice and provide appropriate communication to coaching staff prior to practice
  • Design the practice plans in consultation with the assistant coaches
  • Coach the team in all games and practices
  • Oversee all team activities
  • Comply with all the necessary rules, guidelines, regulations, etc. with the HJHL, Hockey Alberta, and Hockey Canada
  • Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision of the players
  • Submit a year-end report which contains the following information - evaluation of player’s performance, evaluation of teams performance, outline of practice plans and game strategy and recommendations on how the program can be improved.
  • Assist the manager in organizing players for community events.
  • Help other staff members when available. It is a strong belief of the organization that the bench staff is as much a team as the players are. 
  • Off ice activities: Coaches are expected to adhere to the Cochrane Generals mission statement and their Respect in Sport designation. Coaches are expected to continue to act as a role model and their actions need to reflect the commitment they have made to create a safe, social and welcoming environment

Skills and Qualifications:

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate in a highly effective manner with players, parents, coaching staff, manager, and members of the executive
  • Ability to effectively diffuse intense and sometimes hostile situations
  •  Ability to instruct, motivate and lead players

Qualifications:

  •   Minimum 3 years experience working in Hockey
  •   Head Coach Experience
  •   Valid Police Check
  •   Respect in Sport Certificate

Boundaries and Limitations:

• The Head Coach is bound by the Cochrane Generals Code of Conduct and all rules, regulations, by?laws, articles and policies of the HJHL

• Application reviews and interviews are conducted by the Cochrane Generals coaching selection committee

Supervision and Support:

• This position reports directly to the General Manager and Board of Directors

• The Cochrane Generals Orqanization has designated Coach Mentors that are available to assist with support throughout the season

• The Head Coach has the support, of a minimum, of three additional team staff members; Assistant Coach, Equipment Manager, and Trainer.

Time Commitment:

• The Head Coach is expected to attend all team events including practices, games (exhibition, regular season, tournament and playoffs) and team sanctioned events or designate a replacement

• Coaches, or designate, are expected to allocate sufficient time before and after games and practices and allow for adequate supervision

• Coaches are expected to plan for and hold at least one coach’s meeting to communicate team expectations

  • 1 – 3 games per week (home and/or away), two practices per week, playoffs (if applicable), provincials (if applicable) and end of year banquet
  • Community events scheduled by manager

Orientation and Training:

• “Respect in Sport” Certification
• Attend any scheduled coach’s meetings as set by the HJHL
