There were only three games on the HJHL schedule Friday evening, but all three packed exciting action.
Coaldale (4) vs. Okotoks (1)
OKOTOKS – A three-goal second period propelled the Coaldale Copperheads to a 4-1 victory over the Okotoks Bisons at Murray Arena on Friday evening.
Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, Levi Anderson found the equalizer for Coaldale just under the five-minute mark of the middle stanza, while Riese Nevil and Jayden Smith added a pair of power play markers to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes.
Gavin Burns added another power play goal for Coaldale 39 seconds into the third period, while Andrew Suriano continues to shut the door between the barber poles, finishing with 30 saves on the night.
Matthew McDonald was busy in the Okotoks crease, facing 51 shots in the game, stopping 47 of them, while Jason Horn gave the Bisons their lone goal.
Cochrane (5) vs. Airdrie (3)
AIRDRIE – Tied 1-1 after 20 minutes and 3-3 going into the final frame, it was Talus Hume’s third period marker that was the difference as the Cochrane Generals skated to a 5-3 win over the Airdrie Thunder.
Erik Garber made 31 saves in the Cochrane crease, while Braden Bain, Chris Sambrook, Scott Shugg and Will Gretton rounded out the offence, each adding a single.
Andrew Neis, Jacob MacDonald and Nicholas Profeta provided the offence for the Thunder, while Ryan Simpson kept his team in the game, stopping 53-of-57 shots fired his way, including 20 saves in the final 20 minutes.
Blackfalds (3) vs. High River (2)
HIGH RIVER – For the second straight game, the Blackfalds Wranglers found themselves playing past regulation, and for the second straight game they found themselves picking up two points.
Braden Olsen scored twice, including the winner 1:43 into overtime to lift the Blackfalds Wranglers to a 3-2 win over the High River Flyers.
Riley Mathias tied the game with 35 seconds to play in the third period, while goaltender Lane Brann stopped al 14 shots he faced in that final frame, finishing with 32 total in the Blackfalds crease.
Davis Sheldon provided the offence for High River, scoring both goals on the night. Dylan Jensen made 24 saves in the loss.
